CPA UK is strengthening community-based responses to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) by improving access to legal information, protection, referral pathways, and essential support services for women and girls in Ghana’s Volta Region.

Through our Community Paralegal Training and GBV Survivor Access to Justice Project, CPA UK trained 26 community volunteers as Community Paralegals to support SGBV survivors in communities across the Adaklu and Ho West Districts. The volunteers received training in human rights, women’s rights, gender-based violence, legal rights awareness, safeguarding, confidentiality, survivor-centred support, and appropriate referral procedures.

The trained Community Paralegals serve as an important link between survivors and available professional support services. They help raise awareness of legal rights, provide basic information on available support, and facilitate appropriate referrals to legal assistance, health care, psychosocial support, social welfare, and protection services.

The project also strengthens community awareness and challenges harmful social norms that discourage survivors from speaking out or seeking help. By bringing legal rights information and referral support closer to communities, CPA UK is helping to reduce barriers that can prevent vulnerable women and girls from accessing protection and justice.
