15 Survivors Trained in Mentorship and Advocacy

From Survivors to Community Advocates

Building a Network of SGBV Advocates and Mentors

Community Pathway Africa (UK) supported 15 survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in Ghana’s Ho Municipality to develop practical skills in mentorship, advocacy, SGBV prevention and support-service referrals. The inclusive training involved persons with disabilities and was facilitated by experienced human rights advocates.

Through practical sessions, participants learned how to raise awareness, mentor others and connect survivors with suitable legal, health, psychosocial and social support services.

The programme covered:

  • Understanding sexual and gender-based violence
  • Human rights and relevant laws
  • Advocacy and community awareness
  • Mentoring and peer support
  • Survivor-centred and trauma-informed support
  • Psychological first aid and active listening
  • Safeguarding and confidentiality
  • Case identification and safe documentation
  • Referral pathways and service mapping
  • Access to legal, health, psychosocial and social services
  • Disability inclusion in SGBV prevention and response
  • Communication, leadership and community mobilisation

Each participant received a certificate upon completion. The programme established a regional network of informed advocates who can mentor others, promote prevention, guide survivors towards suitable services and contribute to safer, more inclusive communities across the Volta Region.

The programme has strengthened a network of informed advocates who can promote prevention, improve access to support and help build safer communities.
